:D Thanks for the support edi, im going to need all i can get, this is a big project.

Please ask the team members if any of them are up to drawing a few (about 10) monsters for my game, or some backgrounds. one more thing, does the team use a drawing program for the graphics, or is it done by others?? if it is a program, do you think you could send me a copy of it, or let me know where you got it? thanks.

And if anyone outside the team thats reading this thinks they have any talent at all in drawing sprites, animated or not, then just let me know and ill send you info about the size, style, etc. and the same goes for the backgrounds, ill send info about them if you want the challenge. youll be included in the credits, and if i get it published, then youll get your check  So, anyone with talent, just reply on this forum, or if your a member, ps me and ill get back to you. thanks.

Hi Matt, sorry for not responding for so long, I had LOTS of work. I'm overdue (is this the way to say over deadline?) with Gink.

I'll qoute you with bold:
:D Thanks for the support edi, im going to need all i can get, this is a big project.
NP, just don't make it too big! It's often for people to give out of their projects if they become hard or takes too much time for nothing (except pleasure, moral, confidence..).

Please ask the team members if any of them are up to drawing a few (about 10) monsters for my game, or some backgrounds.
I don't think so, they don't have any exp with graphics (try PM them), I'm the best with it in the team, and I only know to draw some simple stuff not characters and similar.. :( sorry. But, I have something that will defiantly help you:
http://www.gamingw.net/resource/

one more thing, does the team use a drawing program for the graphics, or is it done by others?? if it is a program, do you think you could send me a copy of it, or let me know where you got it? thanks.
I use Photoshop 5.0 for all the graphics that we need, I can't send you because It's illegal (like I care), but still too big to send over Net. Try on Kazaa if you know what it is.

- For the 2 players mode, will there be a multiplayer option or just local?
- Will there be a scrolling screen (bigger map/field to move on)?
- I suggest you to make 2 modes at least,
1st: Levels like before
2nd: Survival (enemies coming all the time, more and more each sec)..

dont worry about not respondin for so long, i know wut its like to be overdue (yes its right to use) on things....

Thanks for the resource site, its helping alot, and yes, i use kazaa too.

I will have a 2 people on same comp mode, and network play mode, with multiple players, maybe up to 4, or 6.... but it could get quite complex.... ill look into the multiplayer network for over 2 players. and the play area will be much bigger than the screen, maybe 4 or 5 times. and yes, i was planning on having multiple modes, survival and quest(levels) are 2 so far,... need to think of 1 more a LEAST

need to think of 1 more a LEAST
Hmm, FUGITIVE mode, going up all the time, there are more and more enemies and some object on the way (broken cars, walls...)...
what ya think?

wow, great idea, but im a little confused... wut did u mean by going up all the time? did you mean walking up a street on the screen? sumthin like that?

That opens alot of ideas, thinking of FUGITIVE mode..... i think it would be great! I would add some bonuses, like bombs that clear the screen, and speed boosts so u can move faster, and weapon upgrades, starting with the weak gun, then picking up a bonus to get the next best one...

now, would you keep on going up and up forever? or would there be goals to reach for score boosts and such? hmmm, so many ideas

I think this new version is going to have los of mini game modes, then there will be classic mode, wich will be the original mutant mahem! :P i will just combine the games, and then you can enter the original game through the main menu.... wow,im bursting with ideas today, i gotta write this down!

thanks alot for the idea edi, it opened me up! let me know wut you think of the new ideas, so that we can expand on them!

yeah :)

Great ideas!
what about metal, silver & gold ammo (gold costs the most and goes thru metal, like cars and walls), (silver goes thru body armor)...
And every now and then you see a weapons shop on the side....

now, would you keep on going up and up forever? or would there be goals to reach for score boosts and such? hmmm, so many ideas
I think it's best to keep going forever, harder and harder, and this can be good for people/friends to prank about who's got the best distance like "I got to the Bronks".

wow,im bursting with ideas today, i gotta write this down!
:idea2: lol

An Overview of Fugitive Mode.

okay, so your constantly walking up a street, but can stop when you want, and there will be metal, silver, and gold ammo, ill add grenades and body armor, which you will buy at the weapons shops.... the areas will be named and change the further u get... starting with sumthing like 'the Ghetto' and then change to better names, like the last might be... 'Beverly Hills' and then goes on forever with that final name :)

next is that the bullets will have different peircing properties... now ill gold go through everything? or only walls/cars, and silver go through enemies? or wut?

next thing is, will you be fighting the monsters? or will you fight the population?? ex. kill innocent bystanders for a chance at picking up cash, and kill cops for a chance at getting weapon upgrades/grenades/ammo? sumthing like taht sounds goo, do you agree? or should we stick with the monsters?

and all this is in fugitive mode... wow, this is going to be great, thanks for your help so far, but keep it coming!!

Also, i think that im going to completely remake the soundtrack.... all the songs i used it the old version were freeware midi file, but i think im going to add some mp3 that i made, it will be large though  Do you agree?

anyway, i have to get to work with all these great new ideas, but keep sending them in! Anyone who has any kind of idea, just post it on here, or pm me if you choose, but please, try to think of sumthing!

Gold ammo: through all obstacles (not buildings aside)
Silver ammo: -//- all enemies
Normal ammo: stops at hit

next thing is, will you be fighting the monsters? or will you fight the population?? ex. kill innocent bystanders for a chance at picking up cash, and kill cops for a chance at getting weapon upgrades/grenades/ammo? sumthing like taht sounds goo, do you agree? or should we stick with the monsters?
Hmm, maybe zombies? Cops are shooting at everybody, even you.. (this can help you sometimes when you got 15 zombies on your back)
When entering weapons shop, holster/hide your weapon or the guy that works there will start shooting at you [optional idea]...

and all this is in fugitive mode... wow, this is going to be great, thanks for your help so far, but keep it coming!!
no problem, I cant wait to see and play this!

im going to add some mp3 that i made, it will be large though  Do you agree?
size is not the issue, put it in! You can make 2 versions anyway, one without the music and other one with it.

wow, im starting to get overloadied in this game  :-? :( I really apreciate all the ideas, but this will be my last post for a few days... I have a few sheets of paper with most of these ideas, but none of the ideas have been crossed off (completed) yet! i like all your ideas edi, your great with them! :P

Im having one delema, i love your idea about the cops shooting everyone, but i dont think im skilled enough to make the cop choose a target to shoot at.... if you could give me a few "IF/THEN" ideas, or anything in your c++ i can convert the stuff that i understand into GML that i use, and the stuff i dont understand, ill use my command library from Visual C++ and figure it out.... if you have the time that would be great, but i just dont have the skills to write that kind of a script

and one thing about the mp3 songs that i might add.... it wont matter about the ending size, but the loading time will either be higher at the start, or in the middle of play it will seize while it loads.....

but anyway, i really have to get to work on this before i lose my focus on it.... i really want this to be successful! thanks again!

First of all, I have to say that I don't have much time this days, working on many things at the same time, my sleep time average has dropped to 4h per day so don't be mad :) if I can't find the time for your project (but I will help as much as I can)

And now the Cops dilemma:
I work in VB so IF/THEN is my default lang for understanding :)
I don't know how GM works so I'll go...blah..
Each enemy (including cops) will have a variable named Target that will represet a target to attack. Attack is engaged when it's found and a search starts only when enemy is created (on screen). When unit/enemy detects a target in a given range unit starts shooting at the target.
Zombies target = "player" [by default]
Cops target = Random(player or zombies), if zombies then drop random number 1 to 4 (if there is 4 of them on screen)

I hope this helps, I don't know to explain it differently (including my bad English) :|

And for MP3:
Does GM supports mp3 loading by request (real-time loading, lot's of games does that this way)..?

i know what you mean by only getting 4h of sleep, im down pretty low on my sleep time also..... i usually find myself getting tired around 3am and waking around 8 or 9... but in those many hours i have a huge amout done on the music, i have finished a good menu loop(impressive), a credits song, a theme song(very impressive i think also) and 6 songs that average 2.5 min and 1.2 mb each. :D :P

thanks alot for the idea on how to target, its sort of embarrassing not knowing much about programming, me and all my friends agree that my real talent is in music. the GM Language works almost exactly like C++ except it doesnt have any of the complex options... well, i will put that into the game and see how it works out, thanks again. and btw, i dont ever notice your english being bad, occassionally there is some incorrect grammar, but that happens even more to me!

GM supports real-time loading in everything, except for scripts, paths, and timelines. but its real-time loading is very slow, so i try to not use is often.

i am sort of stalling in working on this game, i really need to get to work on the sprites..... I was hoping i would find some high quality work that i could hire, but it seems i am out of luck..... some people may be disappointed by the graphics, or find them cheap, but it will be the best i can do on my own with paint and the low quality freeware i found...

i will send the songs to you as soon as possible, but i might have to send them in groups over a few days, becasue my upload speed is extremely slow and it takes about an hour and a half to upload the small 1.2mb ones.

ya, thanks for the support on the music, one of my friends suggested i actually test my luck in making a techno/trance CD to get published. but i dont think i have those skills..... yet 8)

Drawing Progress 2%
Other than the player, a few bullets, and the second player, i have nothing fully drawn into the computer, but i have designed and drawn out on paper the more complex levels of quest mode, like the hospital, streets, and caves... but nothing on paint yet... I have also completed a list of all the objects i will have to draw for quest mode... which i still havent drawn into the comp yet... sry but i way behind, i really hate drawing on the computer, its too difficult for me. :-?

Coding Progress 10%
I have successfully built in the movements of the player, but i am unsure of what speed he will travel... other than that, i have completed 5 of the 10 weapons, you can select them and shoot so far... i still have to make damage and peircing properties, along with ammo, and other smaller tasks. thats about all that i have so far... i find it hard to code the game without all the sprites drawn, so im planning on doing that before i go any further into the coding part.

Sound Progress 90%
I have all the music made, which is the largest part of the game, but i still have to edit a few of the sound effects, and maybe add a few that i have forgotten about... the reason it is only 90% is because i have downloaded a text to voice program, and was thinking of editting some words lik "lock and load" or "Die!" into the game, maybe even the players inner thoughts about the areas he enters, like "Holy shit, where the hell am I?" when he wakes up in the hospital, and things like that.... im not sure about it, because the voice will not sound fully real, but will add a big effect to the game.... i have tonnes of filters i use for the music which i can use on the voice sounds to make them sound more realistic, but im not sure, what do you think? btw, my voice isnt rugged enough to put into a game like that, so if any of you at the team have a rugged voice, id love to use it :P just to let you know, you wont be able to recognize as much after i finish running it through all the filters, but i would be SO HAPPPY if one of you guys let me use your voices!

Total Progress = 5-10%

Believe me, you have!

i really hate drawing on the computer, its too difficult for me.
i hate it too, it takes lot's of time to make something not even close to be good enough for the needs.. but, when you have a job to do, you just do it  but on the end :sunny: the feeling is so great (undescibable)

the reason it is only 90% is because i have downloaded a text to voice program, and was thinking of editting some words lik "lock and load" or "Die!" into the game, maybe even the players inner thoughts about the areas he enters, like "Holy shit, where the hell am I?" when he wakes up in the hospital, and things like that....
GREAT IDEA!!!

i have tonnes of filters i use for the music which i can use on the voice sounds to make them sound more realistic, but im not sure, what do you think?
I don't think it will sound right!

btw, my voice isnt rugged enough to put into a game like that, so if any of you at the team have a rugged voice, id love to use it :P just to let you know, you wont be able to recognize as much after i finish running it through all the filters, but i would be SO HAPPPY if one of you guys let me use your voices!
hehe, we speak Croatian and dont know would it sound good enough. If you need our voice we can help you. Just give me the lines and I'll record it and send it to FM. :eh:

hmmmm, i have most of the hospital background drawn now, but need sum help with things to add to it..... i have black walls, about half as thick as the player, with common cracks and chunks out of them.... plus i have broken down metal doors here and there, and cracks in the floor.... but i need help with things to add to it, here is what i have.....

'solid' (cant walk over) objects
- fallen stools x3 (3 different ones)
- fallen stretchers x2
- fallen trays x3
- smashed vending machines x3
- tables x2
- bes x5
- heart monitors/life support x2
- fluid stands x2
- desks/cupboards x3
- benches x5

that is a complete list of all the objects i will draw that the character cant walk over.... what i need help with is objects that are scattered on the floor, or anything that can be drawn strait into the background..... if anyone has anything at all, it would be great, all i have is doors, chipped walls, and cracked floor.... so help me out please

and about the voices.... hmmmm a croatian accented english? im not sure what that is supposed to sound like.... Ill tell you what, ill try out the text to speech, and if it turns out badly, ill get you to record a few things, and if those turn out well, ill send you a short list of things, thanks alot!

The goal that i have for the levels of this game, is that there be lots of variety in the things you will find.... i wanted to have small pictures of things everywere, like newspapers on the streets, bloodstains, bodies, garbage, junk, and tonnes of things, but it looks like it will be a reletively plain and empty environment....

the best way i can describe it, is... hmmm it will look similar to what the streets/buildings in the movie "28 days later" so if anyone has seen, or owns that movie, i would love it if they sent me a list of misc things they seen layin around inside and on the streets, thanks.

sry about this post being so long, but here is the last thing, a list of the completed songs.

Credits Song
Theme Song
Menu Loop
Track 1
Track 2
Track 3
Track 4
Track 5

if you take the time to download them, then please give a quick review, they are still open to editing, if anything is wrong, thank you

p.s. keep in mind i made half of these song in about half an hour, so they are not high quality, or very interesting....

I only have these kind of textures:
http://gs.gamer.hr/files/temp/some_tex.zip [160Kb]

and about the voices.... hmmmm a croatian accented english? im not sure what that is supposed to sound like.... Ill tell you what, ill try out the text to speech, and if it turns out badly, ill get you to record a few things, and if those turn out well, ill send you a short list of things, thanks alot!
No problem, i would be glad to help

i wanted to have small pictures of things everywere, like newspapers on the streets, bloodstains, bodies, garbage, junk, and tonnes of things, but it looks like it will be a reletively plain and empty environment....
uuu, great idea but will it be good for the engine to survive all those objects drawn around at once...
Here are some cool pics of newspapers for your game:
http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/i ... =newspaper

the best way i can describe it, is... hmmm it will look similar to what the streets/buildings in the movie "28 days later"
I love that movie (story)!
- cans
- as you said newspapers
- car racks
- tires
- leaves
- trash cans
- some junk food
- pizza box
- dead pigeons and cats (I just got cool idea, if a black cat crosses your way, something bad happens like bad luck, 3 more enemies come from outside of the screen)
- broken wood from benches
- broken computer parts :)
- random piles of garbage
- ...

I'll grade it from 1 to 5: (for this type of game)
[5] Credits Song
[3] Theme Song (to short! but good)
[3] Menu Loop (atmosferic but little boring-that pipe sound)
Max volume = 70% for next tracks if in game (so they dont get boring)
[4] Track 1
[3.5] Track 2
[5] Track 3 (i like this one the most)
[4.8] Track 4 (hmm)
[4.6] Track 5
[2] Track 6 (bass to strong)
all in all, great horror music

keep us posted...

hmmm, thanks for the textures, but are they freeware? because if i ever decide to publish (depends on how it turns out) then i need all freeware or original(all original so far) 8)

and thanks for the ratings, its too bad no one else is in on this forum, they probly have trouble keeping up with us, we post so much so often :D

yes, and about the voices again, i have 2 samples of what it will sound like, but im not too impressed with them (not impressed with the outcome, but impressed compared to how the voice started) I will post links to the original, and modified versions, just so you can see the difference....

and about track 6, i never thought about listening to my music on the standard 2 speaker style, i have an Altec Lansing Surround System 8) (that sounds cool) it wuz quite expensive, but it has a nice 32' sub, and 4 very soud surround speakers.... if anyone on the team has a sub, or high quality speakers, then listen to it on them, it sounds much better, sorry about that, its a pretty big flaw! btw, im not sure if you know what a sub is in english, its a 'subwoofer' just to let you know, dont want you to think i bought a submarine! sry, that wuz a lame joke... :|

anyway, sry about that, but im a bit excited today, had my first day of highschool today... the school is HUGE!!! but it makes up for that with a HUGER selection of women! did i ever tell you that im only 14?

anyway, im going to delete the track 6 from the fm, and delete the link before i start with homework!

i will add your new objects into the list of 'Things to Draw' thanks again! I like the cat idea  and the leaves.... the leaves are very creepy... i think i will put some bit of effort into programming a set of leaves that fly accross the screen in a wavy, leaf-like pattern... or maybe only on the streets... im not sure but ill figure it out when finished drawing... :( ]

and the engine used in GML is quite powerful in the sense of many prites/objects/tiles and such being drawn frequently, but when it gets overloaded it lags really horribly.... it even supports any computer system, from windows 95, 32 mb ram, and direct x 5.1 + but if its a very heavy game, like mutant mahem was in later levels where blood is everywhere  it will not shut-down, only lag and take 10-30 seconds to load/draw each frame :-?

anyway, i seem to be having a large conversation with the computer right now, so ill just stop talking and get to my homework for school :)

these arent very good, so i will probably have to get your help edi!
modified 1
modified 2
sry, not posting original, they are .wav, and very heavy, so this is the finished product, and yes, i will need your voice edi...

thanks again!

thanks for the textures, but are they freeware?
Stolen from another game :( but I always drop a few filters on those pics so in some way they become original, I'm not an expert in graphics so this is my only choice when I need something... :|

and thanks for the ratings, its too bad no one else is in on this forum, they probly have trouble keeping up with us, we post so much so often
Yeah, but don't worry, more people will come soon when I finish our new site...

and about track 6, i never thought about listening to my music on the standard 2 speaker style, i have an Altec Lansing Surround System 8)
COOL! and yeah, I know what does sub means, i have 4.1 system from 'Creative - Cambridge SoundWorks' but still, that bus is too strong for the game in track6.

did i ever tell you that im only 14?
I think you did, long time ago (in a galaxy far far away :P) that's great for you, starting with programming so young, when I was 14y my school had only 2 Spectrum computers (totally bad, 20 lines of code to draw 2 circles)...

....leaves that fly across the screen in a wavy, leaf-like pattern... or maybe only on the streets... im not sure but ill figure it out when finished drawing... :( ]
I know what you mean :stars:

these aren't very good, so i will probably have to get your help edi!
............and yes, i will need your voice edi...

No problem, just send the list...oh wait... let me try recording anything first (I got that cheap mic..I got to test the quality first)...

well, i wuz going to use some filters on em too, just so they could be the right feeling for the hospital, and there is a very good texture for a cave floor/walls, so ill be using those for that, with a few filters for finishing touches....

dont worry about the quality that much, i have so many effects with my music software, i can fix that up without a problem... and i know what you mean by having a crappy mic, the cord on mine is so short i have to bend down to it because it doesnt pull up!

ill post an update in a few days, im out of town visiting now, so ill be back at it soon!
