Hy everyone!
Edi said I shoud write something on my new opened blog. And you know what, he is right. It is better that some text is here than it is empty like a mentally handycapped brain. Sorry about that, shoudnt have wrote that. Anyway what is there to write about besides, everything. OK a I have a topic for you. But dont expect anything interesting or that you are going to learn something. Like I said, its better that I write something. So what I am gonna do is - express my feelings on a certain topic I am reffering to. I wanted to write about this on a column of mine which we are planing but, this is all I have curently on my mind.

I am gonna start with a question. Why are some games that are older more than 7 years (like Starcraft for example) still more played on the battlenet than some brand new games?
You are probably thinking well Starcraft is not the right example, its more of an masterpiece. I mean the game for its time is infact, perfect. More than enough units, great graphics, sound, music and video animations maybe even better than his rival C & C. Very good story, you even begin to like Raynor,Kerigan and the others. In the end you may even scream "For Adun".But what is so special about that after so many years.
Because lets face it 7 years in a gaming world is an eternity, people still play this game. In my house if the game lasts 1 month its a hell of a good game, or we made it. Some brand new games that are just out are not going to be played more than a month, I can guarente for that. To think that someone can play a certain game for 7 years, thats like 7 times 12, 84 months, over and over again. Well to me thats like mentally handicapped.

Now you know why I wrote it, dont you. Anyway there is something. The thing about Starcraft is his multiplayer. Its the gaming on the Internet that keeps Starcraft alive. The more you play it, the better it gets. How? Well dont ask me ask the guys who play it. Did you know that there are tournaments held on which Starcraft is played, for money!! No, whell now you do. Head over to Japan win the tournament and take 20000 $. I dont think so, why? Whell first you are 7 years late cause that guys over there have been playing or practicing, if you wish, the same game for 7 years 84 months 2520 days over and over and over again. You probably wouldnt build one unit and they would be sending the first wave
of army. How can that be true? Because they know how thats how. Its their job to know how to do that kind a sh**.
Even if you forget about the 7 year diffrence you still have small chances because you have to beat all of them if you want the money. And to think that each guy likes a diffrent rase (Protos,Zerg or my favourite Terran),diffrent tactics, diffrent units (ground or air). You simply dont stand a chance. And the best thing is the guys that are there...they are not there for the money, believe me.

The best of them that go there, go for only one thing. Glory. The only thing they want out of that contest is to be the best player in the world. And now you know the reason why they are still playing it on the Internet. They just have to know if they are best at theirs favourite game. If not, they are gonna practice some more. Amazing isnt it? But why are they
playing Starcraft, not something else. Of all the games in the world, they had to pick Starcraft.

Why are some older games more played? Because, like Starcraft, they are ahead of their time.

Thank you for the time that you spent reading this.
Please leave a message so I know someone was here and read this.

It is been a while when i was playing it. Both SC and SC : BW was great, thats remind me about some time when it was new and tested directly from shelves of local stores. I bought first original product directly from Germany... I tell you people in town was compete who will buy first the game.
We all pass that game, first stuggling with dificulty wich you have to learn computer AI, unit names and abilities and then....multiplayer game ! From that moment i didnt care about singleplayer RTS games, there was only SC in my mind. And yes i was sick, i played it over and over. And yes i spend much money playing it (phone bills) but i had something instead. AND it is PRICELESS... respect amongs players.. and some gaming expirience also  oh i almost forgot my favorite was Zerg. Why zerg? 'couse they are merciless and wicked :wink3:

hehe, lol. Some may find my opinion unwanted to present but SC, for me, it was a pure copy of Warcraft dropped in purple space :) no offence to anybody but it stands, lots of people can agree with this. We all seen Warcraft I and II, and we all know the similarity between SC and WC... so, what's the point? WC and C&C first serials were the most playable RTS games for me, Total Annihilation also but still, most of kids population including some of us were started playing RTS's with SC, so that may be the REAL reason for so much talk how SC is the best and Original, but it's not ;) hehe, nice discussion

Yes you have the point, SC is not right or precise example, like Goran already stated in first lines of his second part of post. But i think that Goran oriented to younger players of RTS (they are now many) and exlude some legendary titles we played since we brought fisrt computers (dont wanted to mention them, to avoid risk of another discussion  )
The reason was obvious: they were in diapers while we enjoyed and accomulating fresh gaming experience. But, those new players catch older players pretty fast, becoming better and wittier than those who played first..

hmmm... Ok maybe SC is similar in some points with WC ,but how is it then possible that Sc is still played from a large group of gamers and games like c&c or WC2 and even WC3 not . U can say what u will but SC is the best RTS ever and no other game had and momentaly have a fanatic group of players like SC. Me momentaly doesnt play SC but i played it for hours, days, nights, years and when i again become a fixed telefone line i will play it like the other thousand of players world wide.

SC I THANK YOU!!!

I think this sentence sais it all. Starcraft is simply unique. It's storyline, gameplay, music, funny voices and lines...which are by the way so catchy that they are imposible to copy in other games and so difficult to forget.

Sentences like "I am just qurious why am I so good", the General with a russian accent "Battlecruiser operational' and lady with a dropper saying "in the five, -five, five, five", and my personal favourite besides the wraith's "I am just qurios"....."Ready to roll out!".

Starcraft is a hell of a game. I think many developers could and should use it as an example for their own developing.
