Hi All

For the 1st, 2nd, 3rd place winner animations...should it be a simple trophy scene or a more detailed scene involving the cars and track?

Please give me suggestions so I can begin to do some animation tests.

In my opinon, more complicated the better animation it's going to be :)
Something like those in NFS7:UG
What does the resto of the team think?

I didn't play NFS:UG, but I think you shuld give your best, after all, your name will be by the Animator section in Credits !!!

Dino, he's part of the team so his name will apear next to all other names (in the team, not GS team, project team)

I added those animations in the list just to start discussing it.
Before we start talking about graphic details :), we should create a list of needed animations, my thoughts:
- Animation after every victory
- ??? New feature unlocked (car) ???
- Outro

Well, i think that we need a few victory animations, car unlock animations...
How about writing a short story, like in TOCA: Race Driver (and again - like in NFS7) :) You're building your street credit and respekt... And in the end you get the girl :P 8)

The best things about cars, there are always girls near them :P hehe

Nice idea, but hard to animate! Daved, what's your opinion on this?

I have to agree with nitro about the complexity. Yes it would be GREAT if we had a nice, scenematic short story to drive the progess of the game. But, it would take me several months as a lone animator working day and night to come close to anything you would want to put your name on.

I could possibly do something as long as the car is the star of the story. That way I don't have to get into character animation very much. If the car is the main focus, say with extra dark tinted windows to symbolize the dark sunglasses of our "hero" for example, then we could build up to something surprising maybe.... Or maybe we could start with an old, beat up car and as the player wins, the car becomes better, nicer, cooler, shinier, etc...Just thoughts off the top of my head

Maybe I can get some of my buddies to volunteer some character work. To make it simpler, I would suggest a more cartoonish feel to any character since the modeler would not have to be so exact in his detail and design.

If anyone comes up with a story, let's hear it. I can then tell you what it will take to produce it. okay? :D

Hm, only one problem with car as a star - The player can choose different cars... Maybe if you can create a non-recognisable car... ??? Don't know... A few characthers scenes would be good...

I agree with the cartoonish look. Easier to for you David, cuter for game atmosphere, the whole game looks kind of smooth (cartoonish style).

We could make one car that will change allot over time (by upgrading), because, I thought about it, why we need all those cars if we're goin' to upgrade them with lots of parts, those cars are already good enough (and what about ? on those cars :-? )
I know for some street racing in our Country (and some others outside), they all race with standard cars upgraded to the maximum, that's cool, we could put ourselves in that position, not with the Porsche (I wish)

What ya all think about this? (just proposing, I agree with any idea)

Yup, cartoonish style woud fit into the game well!

The basic idea was to have 'normal' cars in the game... But, a few urban legends are a must :)

Hi all,

I'm assuming that "Generation Stars" is getting credit in the opening screens of NSL. Here's a sample logo animation scene based on the GS logo gif. :D

Hi all,

Here's a model for a trophy. I don't know if we'll need an in-game model or just an animation, so I'm not uploading the .x file yet. Let me know if this is on the right track or completely not what you want! :D

Hey David!

Trophy idea is great! I'll write all my comments tommorow! It's a little late now...
And Edi won't be here for a day or two... he's fixing his computer...

I love the trophy, but i would prefer those posts to be chrome.

Can you make an animation where this trophy spins in front of a car?
Night, and the car's lights iluminate the trophy...

Here ya go. The avi is 150 frames at 30FPS. The rotation is 360 degrees over 150 frames so it can be looped endlessly. Below is a screenshot and a .wmv file. The actual avi is much smoother and loops seamlessly. When we decide on final animations, I will mail them to you on a CD-ROM :D

Cool! I'm happy that you like it.

I modeled the background and then rendered it into a single bmp for the animation background. This way, the whole avi renders in 12 minutes rather than 3 hours because it doesn't have to recalculate the lights and glows or render the grand stands, startline, etc. more than once. So, I can simply replace the foreground trophy with different ones for other wins.

Later!

WOW !!!
I am impressed.

I like your animations...trophy and GS logo...
We haven’t have the time or knowledge to make an animation like that...
Actually Miskec is working on the GS logo...I don't know in what stages of creation is he...!
I like your animation, and I can say few things that I think it will make it better:
- Lens flare is to strong...
- Too dark
- There should be a fade out on the end of animation. (...everything to go black...)

This is only my opinion, so you don’t have to work on it...!
Again, Great work!!!

Hello,
I had big problems with my PC (still have, I installed some new components but still low pref. - 600Mhz,256MB, OS is XP, NSL = 15FPS maxs)

Nice, where did you learn that(Croatian)? :)

Great animation, I don't know is this possible but would be nice, to make background animation transparent (keycolor) so we would need only one animation file, and to put standard bmp pics as background... (bah, I think that I need to learn english better)

Thanks for making the first GS Logo animation, very nice!

Welcome back Edi! :D

I found a nice Croatian website that has some phrases and words that I'm learning. :D

I can easily make the trophy animation with a solid background for keying. I need to know which color is best for you, ie Pure Green, Pure Blue, Pure Black, etc...

Any color that doesn't interfere with other colors used in anim. Easiest for me will be Pure Black, but I still need to check some things with TrueVision, I don't know is there an option for keying while using Media part of the engine... I'll check it first and contact you about it...

NSL update: I'm working on .map file, loading objects from it...

Here's the updated Generation Stars logo animation. I think I got what you were requesting, Edi. Let me know how to make it better! The file is a wmv. The actual avi is 14MB and much clearer. :)

Whoa, I don't know what to say.. I am so exited now.. :)
What type of connection you use? if it's not a trouble to upload .avi to the FileManger (/Movies folder, zipped).

You made this animation almost exactly as I had it in my head (I was thinking about stopping the camera smoothly at the end, but forget it, this is so perfect!) once more .

Hi Dino, Igor and Edi!

Thanks so much for your kind praise! :D That is actually sort of a demo version. I want to tweak the graphics some and add some subtle lighting effects.

I only have a 56K telephone connection here :(

If you PM me an address, I will mail you all of the animations on a CD. I'm afraid 14MB will take too long to upload and the wife would kill me when the telephone bill comes!

Thanks again, guys! :D

I have finished my final update of the Generation Stars Logo animation. I cleaned up the "sun" and removed some artifacts. The "earth" map was enhanced and I did some improved lighting. I also animated "mars" so that it rotates on its axis throughout the sequence.

I will upload the final version wmv later today. I'd really like to get the music for it so I can mix the final animation. The total animation is 20 seconds, with the last 2 seconds being a fade-to-black. :D

Here's the image of the last frame...

I'm working on a more detailed segment for the Title Sequence/Opener. This segment would probably be added just after the original opening animation. This animation is VERY rough because the actual render will take all night to complete. What you see here is just for timing and reference purposes. Any ideas to enhance this would be great! :)
